Summer School
Institute of Danube Swabian History and Regional Studies
Tübingen, July 23-28, 2023

Call

The Institute for Danube Swabian History and Regional Studies in Tübingen invites students (BA, MA, and doctoral students) enrolled at universities in countries in Southeastern Europe (Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Serbia) to apply for the summer school “Migrations, Minorities, Memories: Approaches to the History and Culture of Southeastern Europe”, to be held in Tübingen between the 23rd and the 28th of July, 2023. At the centre of the program is the interdisciplinary engagement with Southeastern Europe and with its regions and states, with their history and culture from the eighteenth century up to the present. The five-day intensive programme offers students the opportunity to explore issues related to the key terms - migrations, minorities, memories -, to get acquainted with thematic and methodological approaches, to participate in a thematic excursion to Ulm, and to work hands-on with primary sources. Introductions to archive management, presentations of archival and museal collections and of research institutions are part of the program.

The summer school is aimed at BA, MA, and PhD students of humanities and social sciences, particularly of history, cultural studies, political science, literary studies, and related disciplines. It contributes to the transnational and interdisciplinary academic exchange between universities and research facilities in Tübingen and in the countries of East-Central and Southeastern Europe. The participants will have the opportunity to network with students from Tübingen and to get feedback on their research projects from the researchers affiliated with the Institute of Danube Swabian History and Regional Studies.

Please send your application including your CV, copies of your diplomas, and a motivation letter (1-2 pages), in which you explain why you want to participate in the program, to poststelle@idgl.bwl.de no later than 1 May 2023. Please send your documents together in one file (PDF). Notifications with respect to the application will be sent by the end of May 2023.
